Argumentation at Its Best!

This book is organized under 9 sections each containing several papers and excerpts written by well-known philosophers of science. Each section deals with a major theme in the philosophy of science such as the nature of scientific theories, reason vs. faith, some contemporary issues like the philosophy of physics, psychology and biology, and more.
What makes this book unique is that each paper (or excerpt) is followed by a paper (or excerpt) supporting an opposing argument to one just presented. The juxtaposition of two texts provides the reader with adequate material with which to ponder. The author's purpose does not appear to give the reader two options from which to choose the "better" argument, for this would be the fallacy of false alternative... nor does the author do this to encourage the reader to find a "happy" compromise between opposing arguments, for this would be utilizing the defeated Socratic dialectic... the purpose is to promote critical thinking in the reader. Analogically speaking, this book is to the reader (philosopher) what weights are to a body builder. It is the food for thought! A well-organized intelligent read I highly recommend!

As a former student of Dr.Schick, I can credit him with teaching me the value of critical thinking, and how to do it. Here, is an excellent collection of great thinkers, with insight and commentary on the nature of life, man, and mind. Anyone who wants to know his or her place in the world, or simply enjoys lively debate and exploration into the great questions that shape our world, would appreciate this edition.

I will return to write my opinion of this excellent book - but right now I am so excited that I finally located the name of this book - because I lent it to someone ? several years ago - and it wasn't returned. After my unsuccessful efforts to locate who I lent it to - I can't waste a minute to quickly reorder it!! I have read an endless amount of books on oil and gas over my past 32 years in the business - but this one is the best I have ever read on conducting a proper title examination!!!!! BE BACK ......gotta order real quick!!!

Four sexy stories

"The End of Innocence: The Beginning" is a fantastic collection of four erotic short stories. The stories all follow Allison, who goes through four sexual adventures. The stories are all very well written. They really put you in the place of the main character. All of the sex scenes are, of course, very descriptive and really hot. All of them were an absolute joy to read through. This was so good, in fact, that I read through all four of the stories right in a row.

These stories will appeal to any fan of the erotica genre.

I am really big on erotic romance novels. This is so much fun to read and I love all the hot and heavy scenes. Girls fantasize about oral sex and erotica just as much as guys do... only reading an erotic short story lets your mind really create what is hot for yourself. So wished my sex life was like these stories!

Should be required reading - in my humble opinion

First of all, I'm not a reader, but I was compelled to purchase and read this book after "The God Squad" appeared on Imus in the Morning on WFAN/MSNBC. I'm glad I purchased the book and here's why: This book breaks the major religeons down to fundamental basics that the layperson can understand. After reading this book, I'm surprised there isn't more religeous strife going on in the world due to the sheer differences in beliefs and theological structures.
I've always been fascinated by religeon, especially since I am of the scientific/realist wing. I am, however, glad I spent the hours I did digesting this material. For the few bucks it costs - not a bad bargain.
I know other reviews are much more eloquent than this, but I wanted to toss my two cents in and give this book a "thumbs up"!

Errors detracted from story

Christopher Lane needs to learn to do a little basic research before writing, apparently. His errors on military structure (a sergeant, which is a non-commissioned officer, is trying to make "non-com" -- hello, he already is one) and paleontology (saying T. Rex never got further south than Colorado, when remains have been found in Texas) really set my teeth on edge. The military etiquette mistakes grated on me as well. I also had problems with his "creation science" stance, but if you're religious that probably won't bother you. However, even most creation science people have admitted by now that all the supposed dinosaur-man trackways are just dinosaur trackways or outright fakes, so having a character in the book who really ought to know better saying that there are several such sites was also annoying. Other than that, it was an almost decent book.

Tonopah was a fast paced, easy reading book. Although the characters are fairly well developed some of the scrapes they escaped from seemed a little far-fetched. Moves along like a Bruce Willis movie... hard to believe but enjoyable and entertaining at the same time.
Definitely worth reading.

Tonopah, is one of the best action books I have read. Christopher Lane really shows his best in creating such a story that makes us want to read more and more, I just couldn't put the book down! The suspense in the book is phenomenal, it kept me on the edge of my seat.

Good book on assessing young children

This book has some very good information about how to assess young children and also about the various types of assessments and their components. If you are looking for a book that helps you understand assessments and how they work this is a good book to get. I do however wish that there were more actual assessment templates for the different kinds of assessments so that I could prind them off and use them for my observations.
