A key tool in the CCIE DC written tool box

I have now read through two of Paul Adam's study guides: the R & S and DC guides. Like the R & S guide, the DC written fills a key gap in the official Cisco Press material. Paul's guide is focused on key topics likely to be found on the test and written in the order of the blueprint. It is very concise, which makes for efficient identification of strengths and weaknesses. Pay particular attention to the tables and exams essentials sections. They are treasure troves of useful information.

Make no mistake. This is not a lengthy tome on the many facets of Data Center operations. There are plenty of 1000 page volumes for that. What I found refreshing was the Paul's ability to boil down this vast array of knowledge into key paragraphs and tables that might actually get you over the hurdle of passing the test. It is too easy to loose one's way and get distracted by topics not relevant to the blueprint. This book acts as a great study plan to help there.

The last bit that bumped this review from four stars to five was the great customer service of the CCIE in 8 Weeks team. When I wrote with questions or wanted clarification on a topic, they were fantastic at getting back to me promptly. That was a nice extra to know you are not just getting a study guide but also a lot of accessible expertise behind it.

I really like the way this study guide was written

I really like the way this study guide was written, and the way the content is laid out. The content in this study guide is in line with the exam objectives posted by Cisco. The exam objective is the main heading, and then the content and explanation follows underneath.

At the end of each section, there is a section titled "Exam Essentials" that highlights the major points that are important to remember for that particular area of study. This is very helpful as well.

I would use this study guide as a complement to additional study materials or other books that may be required reading. This was nicely done and I would use other study guides from this company and/or author.

I started reading and discovered it was copied and pasted from other sources. I guess the upside is he brought the sources together so one doesn't have to google all the sources oneself. That convenience is why I give it three stars.

The volume also reviews the legislative provisions of the de facto state and analyzes the institutional and administrative framework for governance of minorities in the state entity. Finally, it suggests ways to resolve the ethno-political knot in this troubled Caucasus region. A groundbreaking study, Under Siege derives its strength from painstaking research conducted among diverse communities. It makes every effort not to accept the historical and ethnopolitical narratives propagated by the Georgian and Abkhazian sides and achieves a remarkable objectivity.

About the Author

Tom Trier is Senior Research Associate for the European Centre for Minority Issues and the Centre's regional director in the Caucasus since 2005. He lives in Tbilisi, Georgia.

Hedvig Lohm is a political scientist and journalist who formerly worked for UNDP in Georgia and the Swedish Foreign Ministry.

David Szakonyi is a Research Associate at the National Endowment for Democracy in Washington, DC.

Detailed look at ethnic situation

The book, written in late 2008 and published in 2010, looks at the ethnic dimension of Abkhazia, and how the state is working to keep the ethnic Abkhaz identity alive amongst a sizeable minority population. Though short (only about 130 pages) it has a lot of information on the topic, and looks at things like education, government, and the human rights situation in Abkhazia. Overall the authors conclude that due to the history of the Abkhaz people, they are a lot more reluctant to promote non-Abkhaz identities, and favour the ethnic Abkhaz, though doing so is hindering the development of Abkhazia as a viable, independent state. Granted some of the opinions are a little out of date now, it is still a worthwhile book for anyone interested in the modern ethnic situation in Abkhazia.

Recommended Reading for All Women

I would recommend this book to all women looking to be independent not only financially but in general as well. I bought it for my fiance but read through it myself just to see if there was anything I had not previously read in one of the Rich Dad books. I did not learn anything new, which I expected as I have studied extensively on multiple types of investing and personal finance, but consider this the perfect starter book for any woman looking to get a grip on her life and become fully independent. The book is easy to grasp, making it excellent for younger women just getting started in the world, and covers a range of financial concepts which provide a great foundation to start building on.

The book provides a good understanding of basic financial statements, formulas, and vocabulary along with a philosophy similar to that in the Rich Dad collection. The information provided is current and applicable for women of all ages down to probably around nine.

Excellent Read!!

I remember when I first bought Kim's first book Rich Woman when she first published it. I loved reading every page! And her second book is even better! I felt Kim was talking directly to me. I could relate a lot to her and what her stories were about in her book. It definitely put my mind back on track and made me much more focused on seeing my path to accomplish my goals. I read every last page! (And was sad when the book was over.) But now on to my next book that I bought called "The Midas Touch" by Robert Kiyosaki and Donald Trump.

You need to buy It's Rising Time!! I thought while reading this book.. "I paid $11 for this book and I really feel I am getting so much out of it. Great investment!"

I'm a big fan of her husband's literature Robert Kiyosaki and this is my first time reading her book. I'm halfway into it and she's really great at story-telling like her hubby to help illustrate the point and educate her readers through personal experiences. Every woman needs to read this and take control of her financial destiny!

About the Author
John Wagner is the co-creator of Judge Dredd, Strontium Dog, Button Man and many others for 2000 AD. His graphic novel A History of Violence has been adapted into a critically acclaimed film by David Cronenberg. Brian Bolland is one of the most celebrated artists in the Western comics industry. His iconic work on Judge Dredd included the co-creation of Judge Death. Bolland is best known to US readers for his ground-breaking work with writer Alan Moore on Batman: The Killing Joke. Kevin O’Neill Co-created 2000AD classics like A.B.C. Warriors, Metalzoic and Nemesis the Warlock. Along with fellow 2000 AD alumni Pat Mills, he co-created the cult hero Marshall Law and had even more success when he teamed up with Alan Moore to illustrate The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen – a hugely successful comic which was adapted into a big budget Hollywood movie starring Sean Connery.

Death Lives is a compilation of six Judge Death stories from the pages of Judge Dredd, including Death's classic first appearances. The first stories with beautiful black-and-white art by Brian Bolland (Batman: The Killing Joke), to more recent full color material. All brilliantly written by John Wagner. Included:

Judge Death (1980): The first appearance of Judge Death, the mass murdering undead Judge who considers life itself a crime. Judge Dredd and Anderson must stop him.

Judge Death Lives (1981): A classic introducing Judge Death's maniacal cohorts The Dark Judges.

Theatre of Death (1990)

Judge Death: The True Story (1994)

The Three Amigos (1995)

Dead Reckoning (1996): Especially badass, fun stuff.

It also includes the one page comedy story "What if the Judges did ads?", and various extras. A great collection of Judge Dredd comics, very recommended.

Good selection of Judge Death stories

"Death Lives" is a collection of Judge Death stories, including his earliest appearance. The list of stories are:

The first batch of strips are in the original black and white of early 2000 AD

"Judge Death" - the first appearance of Judge Death, an early Judge Dredd story that also features the first appearance of Psi Judge Anderson.

"Judge Death Lives"- the follow up to the previous story that introduces the rest of the Dark Judges

"What if Judges Did Ads?": A one page comedic strip

After this, the strips are in color.

"Theater of Death": A post necropolis story

"The Three Amigos": A megazine story that also includes Mean Machine

"Dead Reckoning": A time-travel themed story where Judge Death meets his younger self

The collection also features a short introduction by Brian Bolland about the creation of Judge Death, as well as a gallery of sketches and 2000 AD covers. Overall it's a good range of stories showing Judge Death's earliest appearances to some of his later ones, and gives an idea of the character's personality.

This does not include "Young Death", which I think would have complemented the other stories well. I can understand why it was not included though, as it is a fairly lengthy story (one of the megazine's first). It is instead collected in Judge Death: The Life and Death of..., I believe.

The book itself is of a similar quality of other recent Rebellion reprints- a good quality glossy paper.

bad reprinted

I hated this book. It has lost a lot of the sharpness of the original drawings of Brian Bolland. Even I have my old comic where they make their first appearance of Death's partners, and the difference between this reprinted version and the original comic is very noticeable.
Some illustrations are as black spots suggesting to Judge Fear.

Constantine fans - enjoy!

I'm a big fan of John Constantine and the "John Constantine: Hellblazer" series. Constantine is one of the coolest characters in comics. My favorite Constantine story is probably the original graphic novel, "All His Engines". "Pandemonium" and "Dark Entries" are just two other Constantine stories that are also right up there as being masterful works of horror. This entry is also worthy of being mentioned in the same breath as those others I just touted.

Si Spencer does a really good job of weaving a thoroughly enjoyable "Hellblazer" tale that invokes all of the traits of the John Constantine character that fans love and relish. His sneeringly sarcastic wit, devilish charm, determination, detective skills, magic abilities, and overall James Dean-like cool are all on display here. The plot never lingers too long, always pushing forward and upping the stakes. It's a very brutal story. Not for the faint of heart. There are also twists and turns along the way that keep you glued to your seat. And the story concludes with that classic, triumphant "I got the last laugh" Constantine reversal-of-fortune ending that is what, in my opinion, makes the series so much fun to read.

The art by Sean Murphy is a blend of both house and indie styles. His characters are generally very realistic-looking, yet have a somewhat jagged, skewed, cartoonish appearance to them that has the bloody fingerprints of originality smeared all over them. His style is fresh and unique. It's both highly detailed(which, in this case, leads to some extremely disturbing and gory scenes) and exceptional in its ability to draw your main focus to what is most vital to the scene, allowing you to soak in all the wonderfully illustrated backgrounds without being distracting. Murphy has a definite command of his art.

It isn't perfect, but it's more than worthy of the 4 stars I have given it. In fact, I think it's worth 4 1/2. I also forgot to mention the cool little illustrated prose story at the end of the book by Dave Gibbons of "Watchmen" fame. It only adds to the overall positive experience I had while reading this graphic novel. If you're a fan of Constantine, you should pick this one up. Those of you who are unfamiliar with "Hellblazer" should give this one a try. But be forwarned: once you've had a taste of the character, John Constantine, you can become highly addicted. So be prepared to burn a hole in your pocket trying to get your fix of him through the many other graphic novels he inhabits.

Not my kind of book, but good, regardless.

After a car accident that leads to Constantine's hospitalization, two twisted doctors use Constantine's blood to infect the city's inhabitants, effectively demon-possessing them.

"City of Demons" is my introduction to Hellblazer's world and it titles itself appropriately: the book has dark, grotesque, and snippy elements all wrapped up within what I found to be an intriguing plot.

It is a fairly linear story providing minimal twists but strong character work carries it along. The writing is definitely UK and it took some time to adjust but it was a welcome journey. Constantine as a character truly gets established and his reluctant-hero persona is never lost; I finally understand John Constantine's appeal now for I found myself wanting to know more about him page-after page.

Sean Murphy's lively, sketchy art is absolutely stunning. Although there are some over-rendered panels, with tons of crosshatching littering characters' faces, it remains awesome eye-candy that successfully coordinates with the script. Storytelling-wise, there were several unclear panels which forced me to reread the page, but I honestly did not mind for the art looked so great.

Overall, it is a well-written, great-looking tale that kept my full attention until the end.

Coming into the book, I obviously knew Hellblazer is entrenched in dark content, but it personally was a bit too much for me. A handful of "mature-rated" comics line my bookshelf but this one pushed the bar to a far higher level with its cannibalistic images and some sick material one would probably expect from a demonic story.

Objectively speaking, "City of Demons" is a solid, solid standalone graphic novel that kept a Hellblazer newcomer like me interested despite minor flaws with storytelling, art preferences, and occasional loose writing. That being said, this is a city I do not plan on returning to anytime soon.

which is a good sign in my book

I actually know nothing about the franchise and only picked this up because I needed more of Sean Murphy's artwork in my life. The coloring is a little flat instead of shaded but it works for the tone of the story. The pacing keeps it interesting and despite not knowing anything about the franchise I still kept on turning the pages wanting to know what happened next, which is a good sign in my book.
