This book is the work of a 21 year old Marine Corps Sergeant who fought in the battle of Khe Sanh South Vietnam. The author endured the hardships of the 77 day siege recording each day's events and his feelings in his diary. Jim Oyster is a decorated Marine Corps veteran of the Battle of Khe Sanh and additional engagements in the Vietnam War. He received two Purple Heart medals as well as a Bronze Star with Valor. During his tour in Viet Nam Jim served as a fire team leader, squad leader, right guide, platoon sergeant, and platoon commander. Following his discharge from the Marine Corps Jim went to Fairmont State College, in Fairmont,West Virginia, receiving his under-graduate degree in Education and later received his Masters Degree in Speech Communication from West Virginia University, in Morgantown, West Virginia. He then embarked upon a thirty-eight year career in education serving as a high school and middle school teacher, principal and coach. His Marine Corps training and unique experiences in the military along with his desire to educate and mentor America's youth enabled him to inspire countless young men and women to work above and beyond their perceived talents and abilities. His belief in the attributes of positive thinking and perseverance have guided his life accomplishments, and highlighted his ability to overcome adversity and to embrace life to the fullest.

Please Read This Book

This is a self-published book, and that's a shame because few people will have the opportunity to read it. I'm hoping some of the people who read my reviews will read this one and buy the book. This is a non-fiction account of a young man's experience in Vietnam, particularly in the area of Khe Sahn. I learned a lot about camp life among the soldiers, how they prepared their bunkers, their friendships, their fears. I was absolutely amazed at how the author, James C. Oyster, was in the thick of battle and when his R&R came up, he was whisked away for a brief respite. Then, back into the fray. This was the way things were done during the Vietnam conflict. If you are curious about what "Moving Trees" are, you will know what this means when you read the book. You will never look at trees the same way again. Please buy this book and you won't regret sharing the great adventure with the author.

Moving Trees gives the reader a true, strong vision of what life was like for a young Marine and his colleagues during a terrible time. This book dredges up memories we may not like but can't afford to forget.

Up Close and Personal Account of How War is Truly Hell

Excellent book. Highly recommend to anyone interested in a very personal account of life on the front lines of the hell that was the Vietnam War. Oyster's day-by-day journal allows a reader to see his change from a young scared farm boy to a frustrated angry warrior.
