About the Author
Conrad Phillip Kottak (A.B. Columbia, 1963; Ph.D. Columbia, 1966) is Professor and Chair of Anthropology at the University of Michigan, where he has taught since 1968.  In 1991 he was honored for his teaching by the University and the state of Michigan.  In 1992 he received an excellence in teaching award from the College of Literature, Sciences, and the Arts of the University of Michigan.  Professor Kottak has done fieldwork in cultural anthropology in Brazil (since 1962), Madagascar (since 1966), and the United States. In current research projects, Kottak and his colleagues have investigated the emergence of ecological awareness in Brazil, the social context of deforestation in Madagascar, and popular participation in economic development planning in northeastern Brazil.

A mirror to Anthropology 102.

I got this book for an 8 week course and the professor had us read the whole thing. It's not overly complicated as the reader can tell that Kottak does an adequate job of breaking down important anthropology lingo with definitions and examples. This book is exactly what the cover states, a concise introduction to anthropology. At the end of the semester I go away feeling like I learned a thing or two, for that five stars.

This textbook is a triumph for the teaching of Cultural Anthropology. Used the kindle edition for my ANTH 103 class at UIUC, and let me tell you, it was something else! I was expecting Anthropology to be boring, but this book really opened my eyes to what it means to be influenced by culture. This book changed how I look at the world. I recommend it to anybody and everybody.

Hidden away for long millennia, the world's most ancient sacred text reveals the past, present, and future of humanity

A million years ago, the Great Masters of Wisdom recorded a mysterious manuscript widely known as the Book of Dzyan -- a Tibetan name meaning the Book of Secret Wisdom. Written in a language unfamiliar to modern philology, called Senzar, this oldest book in the world has served as the source of every ancient religion, philosophy, and science.

The Masters stored it in the legendary realm of Shambhala, each century admitting only a few chosen ones to read some of its pages. Thus, in the 19th century, Madame Blavatsky was permitted to translate and publish nineteen stanzas from the Book of Dzyan in her highly influential masterwork, The Secret Doctrine.

“The Book of Secret Wisdom” is a glance at the Earth beyond Time, beyond Space, beyond Distance, conveying in simple phrases the past, present and future history of humanity. To be honest, my mind could not fully understand what was written, but the heart realized the whole Magnificent Mystery of Life on our planet and trembled in time with the words on the page.

When you read the stanzas from the Book of Dzyan, an amazing inner process takes place. You seem to experience the evolution of the planet; it goes on inside of you, and you watch as its state changes. Now pain, now joy, now acceleration of motion; then slowly, slowly, something binds you fast, and again a spiralling turn upwards, and then delight and Love! Everything is so Grand and so Simple!

“The Book of Secret Wisdom” expands the boundaries of our vision of the surrounding world. It affirms that the basis of all things is Love: without Love there is no Life. It teaches us to hear and understand the Voice of our Heart. We might also call this the doctrine of Blavatsky in simple words. For those who are searching, it is a field for reflection. But the author of “The Book of Secret Wisdom” translated it in simple and understandable language even for a child — in the Language of Love. The book is permeated with such a love for the Earth and humanity that one has a feeling as if Love herself, having given life to the planet Earth, reveals her mysteries to us on the pages of this book.

Having risen above everything (above the history of the creation of Continents, Races, and Nations, and above Life and Death), over a short period of time, one can behold the creative Power, transcending all the layers of Existence—the Power of the Supreme Love. One can trace the course of the development of Humanity, the Sacrifice of our higher Leadership, and the triumph of the Forces of Light.

Living an ordinary life, it is almost impossible to take in the whole chain of the evolution of the Earth and Humanity at a single glance, as if looking down from the Cosmos. It is difficult to evaluate the role of the Divine Beings in the creation of a God-man. This book gives you an opportunity to soar up and open your eyes. I have personally seen all of these things, and I seem to have found my place in this Process. When certain successes are achieved, it is best not to boast of them, but instead to go on into the ranks of the Last and continue the Path of Ascent. We must combine internal work (self-perfection) with external work (to bring light to people by one’s example of Love and loyalty to the Cause of Light). These may be lofty-sounding words for an ordinary person, but it can’t be helped—this is that kind of book.

Great book covers some useful utilities

I found this book to be a very strong coverage of many tools, while not all may be applicable for your tasks it covers enough of them to be useful. It covers multiple different tools of the same type, and many different types to help you development and build process be more productive.

If you need to get up to speed real quick on what is out there this is a great book to start with.

Java Power Tools

Brilliant, used it twice at work, within the first couple of days (Ant scripting and SchemaSpy). The information it contains is current, relevant and concise. Like the approach it takes to linking all the different tools into a full development cycle, haven't worked through this yet, but looks very powerful.

Great Book - but could definitely remove some sections

Definitely focused more towards beginner Java users (competent/advanced users will have already discovered the majority of what is covered in the text), this is a wonderful, quick examination and look into the world of each tool covered. It's thorough enough to get you started and get your brain wrapped around some of the common tools used by everyone out there. However, it is not overkill. You are pointed in the proper directions for more detailed information on things covered.

However, this book isn't necessarily "Java" power tools. The book covers various topics in SDLC including CI options, VCS options, etc. all of which could be removed to cover more "power tools" that are specific to Java (i.e. Jakarta Commons, etc.).

So, while it contains some good information, I just cannot go over 3 stars due to the fact that moves in-and-out of the Java realm frequently. Sure, the topics covered relate to some of the tools, but it's out of focus to explain here. Typos are frequent, but mostly just little things and you won't get thrown off by them.

The book should really have been focused less on VCS, CI, etc. and more on the other common libraries/tools that you see out there used exclusively with Java.

I have another bible which I LOVE but, I wanted to add this one by Dr. Olukoya to my arsonal of weapons used to gain knowledge against the enemy and to gain More knowledge of God. I Love the prayers he has added to the bible and the articles he has taken the time to explain. This bible is a great addition and I'm growing in God and happy I found it!

A blessing

Its not about paper or wither or not the book has a certain style! It's a blessing to have men on fire for God, and money can't by the information that this man of God took time to be lead to share with people! Grace and peace be unto you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ! Great work!
