About the Author
Ana González Duque finished her study of medicine after having already won the first Félix Francisco Casanova Prize for poetry in 1994 and the second Juventud y Cultura de Canarias Prize for poetry in 1995. The long hours of her medical residency and the related stress did away with her poetic side; the only writing she did was when she would submit opinion pieces to local newspapers. It was in 2008 when she switched to anesthesiology, the same year that she started writing a blog under the nom de plume of Doctor Jomeini. Since then, in addition to her blog writings—in the 3 website titled, El blog de la doctora Jomeini, El fogón de la doctora Jomeini, and El chuletario de la doctora Jomeini—she periodically writes articles on science and anesthesiology.
